Jannik Sinner fetches the first Wimbledon title-and prevents Alcaraz triple
Jannik Sinner won the Wimbledon final against last year’s winner Carlos Alcaraz in four sets. With his first Wimbledon victory, he also returns for Paris.
For seconds, Jannik Sinner spread his arms, went to his knees and knocked on the lawn again and again. The Italian celebrated his premiere triumph in Wimbledon, with which he prevented Carlos Alcaraz’s title Hat trick on grass.
The 23-year-old Italian won the final duel with great excitement of the currently best tennis professional 4: 6, 6: 4, 6: 4, 6: 4 and won his fourth Grand Slam trophy. He proudly accepted Princess Kate’s gold trophy.
“It is so special, so great to win here. When I was young, this was just a dream, the dream of dreams because it was so far away,” said Sinner and also addressed words to his opponent. “You will win many titles here – but you already have two.”
Champagne cork flies into the Wimbledon final
Sinner was able to laugh again about the most curious scene of the final: in the second set, the corks of a fan’s champagne bottle landed just next to him when he wanted to open. Then he disposed of the cork from the lawn. “It’s a very expensive tournament,” joked Sinner.
How tennis stars deal with a hated Wimbledon rule

Duel of the giants: In 1980 Björn Borg (left) and John Mcenroe met in the Wimbledon final. The game wrote history, both athletes fought a gripping tie-break duel, which ended with 18:16 in favor of the American, but ultimately could not prevent Borg’s fifth Wimbledon title. The two rivals were only fashionable in one line: both of them competed in red jackets for the award ceremony. At that time it seemed to be easy to take the tournament management. With the victory, the world ranking list made the successful revenge for the epic final of the French Open a month ago, which he had lost in five sets after five and a half hours against the Spaniard Alcaraz. “Sinner King of Wimbledon,” headlined the “Gazzetta Dello Sport”.
Before the eyes of Prince William and Princess Kate as well as the Spanish King Felipe VI. However, the final could not always keep up with the tension and level of the showdown in Paris. Alcaraz in particular showed unusual weaknesses that Sinner exploited ice cold.
“It is always difficult to lose, especially in a final. You played great tennis for two weeks,” congratulated Alcaraz.
Carlos Alcaraz remains behind Boris Becker
Sinner prevailed against the 22 -year -old Alcaraz for the first time after five defeats. It was the first title for the South Tyrolean since the Australian Open and its subsequent doping lock. 40 years after the first Wimbledon triumph by Boris Becker, Alcaraz, on the other hand, missed it to equalize with the German legend in the event of success in the All England Club (3) and Grand Slams (6).
With the final, the generation change in the world tennis finally took place in Wimbledon. For the first time since 2002, neither Novak Djokovic, which was outclassed in Sinner’s semi -finals, nor the already resigned Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Andy Murray played for the title.
In the final of Paris a month ago, Alcaraz had defended three match balls on sand. “I am very sure that he took a lot from the French Open final that he will now be physically and mentally better,” said the Spaniard before the duel.
Kate and William Applauden while standing
And Sinner showed this right from the start with aggressive tennis. The Italian attacked Alcaraz’s second surcharge early on, brought the Spaniard into trouble and took the premium for the first time to 3: 2.
But Alcaraz also increased speed and precision in the long rallies, the break brought back. Sinner seemed struck, got more and more on the defensive, lost four games in a row. At the set ball, Alcaraz countered a crashing forehand of the South Tyrolean along the line by return in the failure – Kate and William also applauded like their children George and Charlotte while standing.
Sinner has to dispose of champagne corks
Sinner slipped back on the base line twice, but did not let it get out of the concept either, as in the incident with the champagne body.
The Italian also led 4: 2 in the second set, but did not miss the lead this time. With three brilliant counter strokes, he got his service to 6: 4 and climbed his hand wildly.
Before the final, Alcaraz was on the pitch than Sinner for almost five hours longer in this tournament. In his part, the Italian wore a white armling again after injured his right elbow in the round of 16.
Sinner and Alcaraz win all Grand Slam titles
Excavation was only noticeable Alcaraz. The Spaniard tried desperately to break the rhythm of Sinner with stop balls. But he kept ruining the plan. Sinner acted more and more confidently, improved better after he had not managed to do two sentences for two sentences. In phases it became spectacular: Sinner played a volley through his legs, but then thundered the overhead ball into the end.
Nevertheless, he got the third round and also managed the early break to 3: 1 in the fourth set by return winner. Sinner briefly wobbled again, but after 3:04 hours he was allowed to cheer.
Since the start of the 2024 season, the two have now identified all Grand Slam titles among themselves, Sinner has now won four during this period, Alcaraz three. And your age should just have started.
