FIFA reacts to heat games for 2026
The games in the midday and afternoon heat hit football professionals at the club World Cup. The World Association is considering adjustments for the World Cup next year.
The World Football Association drawn some teachings from the extreme heat games at the club World Cup in the USA on Sunday with the final victory of FC Chelsea. Accordingly, FIFA will consider adjustments to the game schedule for the World Cup finals of the national teams next year.
“The heat is one point,” said FIFA President Gianni Infantino about the experience of a total of 63 games at the club World Cup. However, at the tournament with the first 48 national teams and a total of 104 games in the coming year, they have several stadiums that are covered. The FIFA boss announced that they want to use the early games.
Use covered stadiums more a day
The coaches and players of FC Bayern Munich and from Borussia Dortmund also complained about the extreme conditions during the tournament, especially during the kick -off times at 12:00 p.m. or 3 p.m. local time at certain venues and in completely open stadiums.
“It’s already blatant. It costs extreme forces,” said national player Leon Goretzka about the special challenges with great heat and high humidity in American summer. Once each, the Bayern and BVB professionals were able to compete in the covered and air-conditioned Mercedes Benz Stadium in Atlanta. The conditions were ideal there.
In a year, from June 11th to July 19th in Mexico, Canada and the USA will be played. In addition to Atlanta, the arenas in Vancouver, Dallas or Los Angeles also have roofs. Other stadiums offer at least through covered grandstand zones on the lawn with shade.
“The kick -off time is very important point”
“A very important point is the kick-off time,” said BVB coach Niko Kovac after the BVB out in the quarter-finals against Real Madrid in the final stadium in New York. “The fact that the players of the midday sun are exposed to wherever things are so hot that a normal-mortal should not go out the door and the footballers should bring top performances, which is very borderline,” criticized the BVB coach. “I would like to take some consideration of the players.”
The FIFA is said to be in report on four kick -off times on the game days. There will certainly be no games of the DFB selection in the evening (local time). After all, the television channels who pay a lot of money for the transfer rights want to show the national team live in German Primetime and not at night.
