Zverev tests new coach – Rafael Nadal as a mentor?

After the great disappointment of Wimbledon, Alexander Zverev does not seem to shy away from changes in the environment. Apparently, an external coach and an ex-superstar are supposed to provide new swing.

After the first round in Wimbledon and the confession of mental problems, Alexander Zverev apparently gets help from the Nadal family. The Rafa Nadal Academy posted photos and videos of the German tennis star during training in Mallorca. Zverev is to be trained in the future by the Spaniard Toni Nadal, whose nephew and 22-time Grand Slam tournament winner Rafael Nadal could also take on a mentoring role, wrote Sky commentator Paul Häuser at the platform X.

The management of Zverev was initially not to be achieved for a statement. In the studio of the Pay TV station, houses emphasized that both sides would score these days that a fixed settlement had not yet been made.

Rafael Nadal resigned in November last year. With 14 French Open titles, the Spaniard is the best player in history on sand-the topping, on which Zverev also has the greatest hopes for the longed-for Grand Slam triumph.

Is Becker’s advice heard?

So far, Zverev has mainly been trained by his father Alexander Zverev Senior. As a manager and guide, his brother Mischa is always close to his side. “The father and the brother did it excellently, but it wasn’t good enough for the last step,” Tennis icon Boris Becker criticized: “You have the impression that he plays against the top players in the same leader and hopes that the result will be good.”

Becker had recently recommended changes in the area and on the coaching position to the Olympic champion of 2021 – which had caused upset with Hamburg. “I think if it goes well for me, I always do everything right. And if things go badly, everyone is always very, very smart. Unfortunately, Boris is part of it,” criticized the 28-year-old in Stuttgart.

Zverev announced changes

In the past, Zverev had already worked with coaches outside of his family: Juan Carlos Ferrero, Ivan Lendl, David Ferrer and most recently Sergi Bruguera. “But they all left the boat after half a year. And that has had his reasons,” said Becker in the podcast “Becker Petkovic”.

After his defeat in the first round in Wimbledon, Zverev had announced that they wanted to change things. However, this does not necessarily have to have something to do with tennis. He hoped to be able to give further answers at the Masters 1000 tournament in Toronto, Canada at the end of July, said Germany’s number 1. He had canceled his start at the ATP tournament on Sand in Gstaad.
