“Significant improvement” in the water: World Cup races take place
The lousy water quality in the sea in front of Singapore has led to several shifts at the swimming World Cup. Now the water should be clean enough for the open water race.
The open water competitions at the swimming world championships in Singapore begin today with a clear delay. After the analysis of other water samples, the World Aquatics Association gave the green light on Wednesday morning (local time) for the 10-kilometer races of men and women.
First, the men should start at 7:00 a.m. CEST (1 p.m. local time) on the Palawan Beach. Florian Wellbrock and Oliver Klemet have medal opportunities for the German team. The women with Lea Boy and Jeannette Spiwoks are then at 10 a.m. CEST (4:00 p.m. local time).
Her race should have already taken place on Tuesday, but was then postponed to 4.15 a.m. CEST (10.15 a.m. local time) due to dirty water on Wednesday. That didn’t work either.
According to World Aquatic, the results of the water samples now show a “significant improvement” of water quality. The values were now within the given boundaries that are intended to ensure the health of the athletes.
