Vettel concludes with Formula 1 as a driver

One thing is clear to Sebastian Vettel: Formula 1 as a driver is a thing of the past. Why, he now tells a specialist magazine.

Sebastian Vettel can no longer imagine a return to Formula 1 as a driver. “Formula 1 is complete,” he confirmed in the specialist magazine “Auto, Motor und Sport”: “At some point the time is ready to leave the field to others.” Vettel rose from the motorsport king class at the end of 2022. He also wanted to spend more time with his family, he had emphasized at the time. Vettel has three children with his wife Hanna.

Vettel: A vote for the young drivers

However, the native of Heppenheim then flirted with a possible return. But it wasn’t really serious. At 38, he devoted a lot of time to his environmental and sustainability projects. But he is also a co -owner of the sailing team Germany Sailgp.

While a start at the legendary 24 hours of Le Mans or in general at the long-distance world championship, Vettel wants to leave Formula 1 to the younger one. “I think it’s good that a whole swing has been replaced. This is not a vote against the old ones, but one for the boys,” he said. “I mean, I wasn’t interested in who was no longer driving from the established ones. The main thing is that I can drive.”

And what about a return to Red Bull in a different role?

Vettel celebrated his race premiere for BMW in 2007, was then switched to Toro Rosso and was promoted to the Red Bull for the 2009 season. 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2013 he became world champion. He could then no longer build on the successes at Ferrari and his last station Aston Martin. He won a total of 53 Grand Prix.

For some time, however, it has been speculated whether Vettel could possibly return in a different role in Formula 1. Red Bull’s motorsport consultant Helmut Marko had already referred to Vettel as the ideal successor.
