Marathon world recorder Chepngetich temporarily blocked
Last autumn, Ruth Chepngetich storms into a sensational world cord. Now the Kenyan is no longer allowed to start, you also face a lock.
After a striking doping test, marathon world recorder Ruth Chepngetich from Kenya was temporarily suspended. As the independent integrity agency (AIU) of the World Athletics Association announced, the 30-year-old has been determined by a drainage that was not permitted, which can also serve to obscure other forbidden substances in the urine.
Chepngetich caused a sensation last October when she was the first woman to improve the 2:10 hours over the 42.195 kilometers as the winner of the Chicago Marathon. In her overall third success in Chicago, Chepngetich won in 2:09:56 hours. The 2019 world champion is now threatening a lock.
The runner first asked for suspension herself
As the AIU explained, the striking rehearsal was taken on March 14th. The permitted limit for the diuretic agent hydrochlorothiazide (HCTZ) was far exceeded. However, a preliminary lock is not necessarily planned after the world anti-doping code.
Chepngetich was informed in Kenya on April 16 and asked for suspension three days later, it said. In the meantime, the AIU has further examined the case and now imposed a preliminary lock itself.
In the past few years, prominent runners from Kenya have also been blocked. The two-time Frankfurt winner Brimin Misoi Kipkorir and the former half marathon world recorder Kibiwott Kandie were recently affected.
