Neureuther to the death of mother: still mourning difficult
Rosi Mittermaier died in early 2023. Her son Felix Neureuther now talks about the still serious mourning work. And he reveals who was particularly helping him to deal with the loss.
The former ski racing driver Felix Neureuther and his family are still fighting after two and a half years with the consequences of the death of the mother and grandmother Rosi Mittermaier. “The mourning is not easy for me to this day,” said Neureuther (41) of “Zeit” and described: “I stand in public, people know me and speak to me.”
Mittermaier, the former world-class ski racer and Olympic champion, died in January 2023 at the age of 72 from the consequences of cancer. Neureuther said how important his family was for him at the time. “Above all, my children helped me to deal with my grief. I had to work for them.” At that time he had three children. Last March, his wife Miriam received another child.
Neureuther: daughter calls for grandma to this day
Neureuther also described that the eldest daughter in particular continues to miss her grandmother. “The death of grandma still catches up with her. If my daughter is sad, she still calls for grandma. She would like to be with her.” You have tried that the girl could express the grief. “Our oldest painted the grandma and put them outside, in the garden. There they were picked up by an angel and sent the grandma up to the sky. That helped our daughter.”
The ex-athlete, who is now now a TV expert and children’s book author, said that he basically only lives for his children: “What happens to me personally is completely irrelevant. You have to take care of self-realization beforehand. Of course, children are exhausting and parents can be hard.
Annoyed by children in bed? “Oh where, I enjoy it”
While Miriam is currently mainly about the baby, he takes care of the three older ones. Throughout the night everyone ends up in bed with him. “A bed can also be so big and comfortable, they are all three on you anyway.” But that doesn’t bother him. “Oh where, I even enjoy it. I will surely miss it one day. If your girl or boy comes to you and cuddles, that’s wonderful.”
