Tour de France
Lipowitz dreams: “Good cards” in the race for third place
A few seconds separate Lipowitz vertical starters from taking over the third overall rank on the tour. Until Paris there are still a few tricky stages. He himself has an opinion.
Florian Lipowitz is getting closer to the podium on its first tour de France. The German hopefuls are about 13 out of 21 stages shortly before taking over the third overall rank on the tour of the France. In addition, the white jersey waves for the best young driver.
“We have good cards in the fight for third place,” said the young star, who is currently conquering the big stage: “Everything is possible.” The fact that cycling in Germany is enthusiastic about more people is nice to look at, but put the 24-year-old “a little more pressure”.
Evenepoel: “Simply super bad”
Now he only has to displace the double Olympic champion Remco Evenepoel, six seconds away. The Belgian collected bankruptcies in the Pyrenees – and showed himself down. “It was bad, just super bad,” said the 25-year-old timeline world champion Belgian media after his disappointing twelfth place in the mountain time trial. Lipowitz was fourth in the demanding race against the clock.
The Swabian native could be the first German professional after Andreas Klöden in 2006 in Paris on July 27, which reaches the podium of the world’s most important cycling. But the second place at the time of the now 50 -year -old monasteries should initially remain unreachable.
Before Lipowitz, the Slovenian world champion Tadej Pogacar dominates the tour with 4:07 minutes before the second -placed Jonas Vingegaard from Denmark and 7:30 minutes before Lipowitz. According to Lipowitz, the two top drivers are “out of reach”.
Lipowitz: “Can be more than satisfied”
Successful days are in the Pyrenees behind the previous biathlete. “I can be more than satisfied,” said Lipowitz after his third place on the demanding high mountain stage and fourth place in the mountain time trial a day later. On Saturday, the most difficult stage with the mountain arrival in Luchon Superbagnères is scheduled for a total of 4950 meters of altitude.
There was praise and advice from Emanuel Buchmann, who had celebrated the fourth overall in 2019 and is currently driving for the Cofidis team on the tour. “This is impressive,” said the 32-year-old about Lipowitz’s performance explosion. “I’m actually talking to him here every day. I already give him a few advice or tips,” said Buchmann. He had the potential to go to the tour podium.
