Wellens wins 15th stage – Lipowitz further in third place
Florian Lipowitz was able to spare a little on the 15th stage. Germany’s cycling hope crosses the main field and remains in third place. A Belgian gets the day victory.
Extra Tim Wellens won the 15th stage of the Tour de France. The 34-year-old Belgian from the team of defending champion Tadej Pogacar won from Muret to Carcassonne in front of his compatriot Victor Campenaerts and the Frenchman Julian Alaphilippe after 169.3 hilly kilometers. The German cycling star Florian Lipowitz crossed the finish line in the southern French city with the main field and thus defended his third place in the overall ranking and the white jersey of the best young professional.
The 24-year-old Schwabe may continue to hope for the podium in Paris on his first tour of France after the strong performance in the Pyrenees. In the overall classification, Lipowitz is still 7:53 minutes behind tour dominator Pogacar in the yellow jersey and the Danes Jonas Vingegaard (3:40 minutes).
After the rest day on Monday, the Mont Ventoux is on the program at the 16th stage on Tuesday with the Mont Ventoux for the drivers and fans. From Montpellier it goes over 171.5 kilometers up to the mountain arrival on the legendary tour classic at 1,910 meters.
