Kun Aguero left Manchester City after many years in the summer. He wanted to give his shirt number to Phil Foden, but he refused.
Manchester City’s Phil Foden has revealed he decided against taking over the Citizens’ number 10 shirt from Sergio ‘Kun’ Aguero in the summer. The Argentine was keen to make Foden his shirt number successor but the England international turned down the offer after some consideration.
“I’ve thought about it,” Foden said Sky Sports and then explained why he prefers to continue playing with his traditional 47 on his back. “Ten is always a big, special number in a club. But I have a special connection to 47,” he explained.
Foden: “I want to make history myself”
“I want to make history myself and that’s why I want to keep this number,” said Foden, avoiding the inevitable comparisons with Aguero.
Agüero’s ten at City finally saw new signing Jack Grealish, brought in from Aston Villa for €118m.
