Both have the same record (one win, one draw, one loss) and have four points each. Leads the Students area of La Plata with ideal performance (9 out of 9).
The two finished with ten men due to the expulsion of Matías de los Santos in Vélez (39m PT) and Joaquín Laso (18m ST).
Within the intense actions with which the two began the match, it was Vélez who gradually grew in control of the game from a good pressure on the exit of “Rojo”, who was forced to retreat towards his goal (Renzo Bacchia cut short because the Uruguayan Sebastián Sosa, a regular starter, suffered a strain in the soleus of his left leg).
Once he imposed the conditions of the clash, the “Fortín” began to generate scoring chances. The first clear one was at 17m, with a corner from Orellano from the left that Pratto headed and the ball crashed into the right post of Bacchia’s goal.
And at 27m he had another similar one, when Bouzat anticipated the visiting goalkeeper inside the area and headed the ball to the crossbar as a definition for an excellent collective maneuver.

Independiente, at that point, besieged near his area, was betting on the leadership of the Colombian Roa to come out against fast; or in Batallini’s capacity for the imbalance in the attack (between the two they put together the clearest for Avellaneda’s men, who Roa finished with a shot over the crossbar).
The match changed shortly before the break, when the referee Germán Delfino sent the local defender De los Santos out with a straight red for a stomp on Batallini. From there the “Rojo” grew and approached Hoyos like never before, although without precision, while all of Vélez was wrapped in anger towards the judge, a situation that led to the expulsion of the local DT, Mauricio Pellegrino.
At the beginning of the complement, with the changes introduced by Eduardo Domínguez plus numerical superiority, the visitor became owner of the ball and the ground (more than 60% possession), but lacked depth to break the zero.
And around 20m Delfino balanced: in the same way that De los Santos’ expulsion had seemed exaggerated, he showed the red card to Laso after a struggle with Gianetti in the area. For Vélez, staying 10 against 10 was a mental revival.
The match regained intensity, beyond some players with obvious signs of fatigue. Independiente had it, with a shot by Lucas Romero that Hoyos took out (the goalkeeper also reacted to Insaurralde’s header on the rebound); and Vélez had it with an individual maneuver and a shot that went just over the Garayalde crossbar.
The last ones were a free kick from Orellano, a shot from Soñora and a cross shot from Guidara, all three deflected. Both sides resigned themselves to a draw and thus ended, deservedly dividing a point for each side.
On the next date, the fourth, Vélez will visit Huracán at the Ducó Palace (Thursday from 9:30 p.m.) and Independiente will receive Boca Juniors, on Saturday also from 9:30 p.m.
