Sieg follows the comeback
Venus Williams triumphs at the DC Open
After an operation and over a year break, Venus Williams stand for a tournament on the center court again. So far, the comeback is going well – and maybe it will stay that way.
Tennis alter Venus Williams gave her comeback on the WTA tour after more than a year break and booked a victory in doubles. The 45-year-old won 6: 3, 6: 1 against Eugenie Bouchard and Clervie Ngounoue at the DC Open in Washington.
Williams had previously opened the Miami Open in March 2024. Her last double match-with Sister Serena at the US Open 2022-was almost three years ago.
Venus Williams: “It’s just so beautiful”
Most recently, Williams, who won seven Grand Slam titles in singles, 14 more in doubles and four Olympic gold medals for the USA, reported on surgery on the uterus. “It’s just nice to be able to play. My situation is so different than a year ago. It is like day and night to be able to prepare for this tournament instead of an operation,” she said.
On the German night on Wednesday, Williams meets her compatriot Peyton Stearns in the first round.
