Vingegaard keeps up with Pogacar and crashes into photographers

Jonas Vingegaard and Tadej Pogacar deliver a foretaste of the Alps with their attacks – but a Frenchman wins on the legendary Mont Ventoux. Florian Lipowitz can also be satisfied.

On the historic Mont Ventoux, Jonas Vingegaard did not let his great competitor Tadej Pogacar hang out, but after the finish line, it was unsuspecting by a photographer. The man ran to him and there was a fall. “People in the target area should use their eyes more,” criticized the two-time tour champion. Competitor Pogacar also described the incident as “unhappy”, although he did not see it.

Nevertheless, the Dane was conciliatory. Vingegaard’s attacks against Pogacar remained ineffective. But instead of the last two minutes in the Pyrenees on the legendary giant of Provence, he finished just two seconds after the defending champion Pogacar. “I actually felt really good today. I was very happy with the attacks. I take a lot of motivation from it,” said Vingegaard after the exciting climbing spectacle, in which both toulvorants had fought with attacks.

On the day of rest, the 28-year-old had previously stated that he continued to believe in the tour victory-despite the distance of more than four minutes. Both gave a foretaste of the upcoming Alpine stages with their duel.

Paret-Peintre celebrates the first tour of the tour this year

The Frenchman Valentin Paret-Peintre celebrated the day’s success on the legendary mountain-it was the first French tour day victory this year. After 171.5 kilometers with a start in the southern city of Montpellier, the 24-year-old Paret-Peintre won in an exciting final on the 16th stage in front of the Irish Ben Healy and the Colombian Santiago Bautrago. “I knew I could beat Ben on the last few meters,” said the happy day winner.

Lipowitz extends a head start on panel competitors

In the overall ranking, Pogacar, as the carrier of the yellow jerseys, continues at the top with a lead of 4:15 minutes ahead of Jonas Vingegaard. The German hopeful Florian Lipowitz, who wears the white jersey as the best young driver, successfully defended the outfit and remains overall. He even finished 36 seconds before the current tour fourth Oscar Onley, expanding his lead over the British to a total of 2:01 minutes.

The mountain with barren vegetation and uncomfortable temperature and wind conditions gradually brought several drivers to their limits. The native Swabian Lipowitz kept up well. Routinier Primoz Roglic, the actual captain of the Red Bull team, crossed the finish line two seconds earlier than Lipowitz-the Slovenian is almost two and a half minutes behind the German Youngster in the overall ranking.

“When Pogi and Jonas attacked, we didn’t have our legs today, somehow going, we focused on getting the boys at a distance that are still fighting for the podium,” said Lipowitz of the ARD.

Red Bull boss is proud and looks at the alpine stages

Ralph Denk, team boss of Lipowitz ‘Red Bull team, made it clear in the ZDF morning magazine in the Captain question that the legs would ultimately decide and who could keep up with both in the favorite group. “I’m proud of the team,” he said after the stage. “Roglic has improved and well made Florian time. We will lay down a plan for the two heavy alpine stages.”

Van der Poel rises from the bike

Former world champion Mathieu van der Poel was no longer able to experience the climbing spectacle on the mountain as part of the driver’s team. The 30-year-old winner of Paris-Roubaix no longer got on the bike before the stage due to pneumonia.

The sprinter is in demand on Wednesday. In view of the Montmartre crossing on the last day in Paris, it could be the last chance of a day’s success for the fast cyclists. On the 160.4 km long section between Bollène and Valence, you only have to pass two small mountains of the fourth category.
