“I still feel like it”: Thomas Müller draws it abroad
After Thomas Müller’s contract had expired at FC Bayern, the rumor mill was bubbling. Where will the player go there soon? He was now looking into the cards a bit.
Football icon Thomas Müller will continue his impressive career. “I still want to play football. That’s why I decided to continue playing again,” said the 35-year-old in the ZDF interview after there have been speculation about the future of the 2014 world champion for months.
It, added Müller, “definitely an experience abroad for me. I’m really looking forward to it. I am aware that if you go away from FC Bayern, I am different conditions. Accordingly, I’m curious.” Europe does not matter in its planning.
The TV broadcaster Sky had reported that Müller would soon sign a contract in the Major League Soccer (MLS) in the USA. As part of an advertising raw in a video that published the “Bild”, Müller said: “The MLS is an interesting league, especially with regard to the World Cup in America.”
Müller: “The MLS is already an interesting league”
After a quarter of a century-with 13 championship titles, six wins in the DFB Cup and two triumphs in the Champions League-an era ends at Bayern. So far, Müller had only been a professional for Munich.
“Of course I dealt with these topics to look outside the box. The MLS is already an interesting league-especially with regard to the World Cup in America next year,” said Müller. Most recently, the Los Angeles FC, Bayern partner club, was named as the most likely goal.
“I love the football stage and the pressure to bring performance. Accordingly, I try to take the chance as long as my body is so fit that I can continue to do it on the highest level. Even if I am no longer in Europe or play around the Champions League,” said Müller.
Müller could follow Schweinsteiger and Reus to the USA
Müller’s contract with the German record champions from Munich had no longer been extended. He had left Bayern with the quarter-finals at the club World Cup after 756 competitive games (250 goals) and 34 titles. Thereupon it was long unclear whether the crowd favorite ended his career or tried it again at another club. The MLS, in which a number of stars in more mature football age have been placed for years, seems to be an attractive alternative. Recently, Müller had already flirted as possible destinations with “distant and exotic countries”.
Former Bavaria star Bastian Schweinsteiger once ended his career in the United States. Müller’s former DFB teammate Marco Reus at La Galaxy is currently active and successful in his last career station. Superstar Lionel Messi is on the ball for Inter Miami in the MLS.
