Ex-goalkeeper Adler about Barça: “Respectless” at Ter Stegen
René Adler was once the German number one – and then injured himself in front of the World Cup in South Africa. He sees the injured goalkeeper Ter Stegen in a tricky situation.
The former national goalkeeper René Adler sees Marc-André Ter Stegen almost a year before the World Cup in an extremely ungrateful situation. “The situation is so complex. I wish him that he quickly gets fit and that he finds the peace. But he does not have the time. The World Cup is just around the corner and it has to start playing. He will inevitably have to do something else in winter,” said Adler of the German Press Agency.
The 33 -year -old Ter Stegen has to pause for months due to surgery on the back. It has been the second serious injury since Julian Nagelsmann made him number one. At FC Barcelona and coach Hansi Flick, Ter Stegen was also degraded to number three.
“It is not conceivable that he will go to the World Cup without a game practice. It would not be fair to everyone else,” said the 40 -year -old eagle.
Adler: Incredible, what is pounded on the jetty
The ex-goalkeeper of Bayer Leverkusen and Hamburger SV was number one himself in 2010 before injuring himself in front of the World Cup in South Africa. At that time, two broken breaks on the spine ended Adler’s dream of participating in the World Cup. Number one became Manuel Neuer.
“I wanted to show the world what a good goalkeeper I am. I am convinced that the combination of the pressure from outside as a German national goalkeeper, which is unchangeable, paired with the inner pressure that I made myself, took the game back then,” said Adler.
Adler condemns the fact that Ter Stegen fell so badly at Barça. “What was done with the boy is disrespectful. It is incredible what is petted for him. He is now being dropped by his family, that is, the club, for which he gave so much and for whom he has won so much,” said Adler. Ter Stegen has been playing with the Catalans since 2014.
