Both indoor fistball titles are again in Upper Austria’s hands: the women of the Union Haidlmair Nußbach were able to knock Seekirchen off the throne with a 4:3 final thriller in Vöcklabruck on Saturday. “We fought until we dropped,” said captain Marlene Hieslmair after two and a half hours of play. In addition to the field title, the Kremstal women now also have the indoor plate in their hands again. Last year Salzburg had to settle for silver in the open air, too. Third place at the weekend went to Askö Laakirchen Papier, who lost 4-2 to Nußbach in the semifinals on Friday.
return of the fans
In the men’s final, the favored Union Tigers Vöcklabruck defeated Union Compact Freistadt 4:2. “Freistadt did a really good job of countering it, and to be honest I didn’t know how it would turn out at 2-2,” said Jakob Huemer, captain of the hosts. “Thank God we had the necessary calm in the team after the break to successfully defend the title.”

In charge of the Vöcklabruckers was world fistballer Karl Müllehner, who time and again found the gaps in the defense of the Mühlviertler. Tigers coach Stefan Huemer did not want to overestimate the indoor title before the home final 3 and described it as a “pass post”. The focus for the Vöcklabruckers this year is more on the Champions Cup and participation in the World Tour finals.
The comeback of the fans was pleasing for all teams: 300 spectators were admitted to the championship decision, which provided an atmosphere worthy of the final. “It’s so nice that we can finally play in front of such a great crowd again,” said Jakob Huemer.
Third place in the men’s category went to the surprise team from Enns, who lost 4-1 to Freistadt in the semifinals.
