Barcelona: Ter Stegen operated on the back

Marc -André Ter Stegen experiences a difficult summer – health and sporty. Now the national goalkeeper even had to go under the knife almost eleven months before the World Cup start. His future is uncertain.

Football goalkeeper Marc-André Ter Stegen from FC Barcelona has been operated on on the back. The 33-year-old was not operational until further notice, his return “depends on the further course of healing,” said the Spanish association.

Spanish specialist media appreciate that Ter Stegen will have to pause at least three to four months. The procedure was successfully carried out by the doctor Amélie Léglise in the French Sports Clinic Bordeaux Mérignac under the supervision of the medical staff of the club.

There were many interested parties before the operation

Ter Stegen experiences a very complicated summer – health and sporty. The Catalan’s year -long stem keeper was recently degraded by Barça by German coach Hansi Flick to number three. Because of the ongoing back problems, the goalkeeper had only trained on the edge of the squad to make matters worse since mid -July – alone in the fitness room.

According to the media, the Spanish champion and cup winner wants to get rid of the ex-Mönchengladbacher, also in order to save his millions. It was not lacking in interested parties. Manchester City, Manchester United, FC Chelsea, Inter Milan, AC Milan, Juventus Turin, Galatasaray Istanbul and AS Monaco are said to have considered an obligation by Ter Stegen. But the operation makes a change extremely unlikely – hardly any club would spend a lot of money to wait until winter.

Ter Stegen looks into an uncertain future

In the national team, too, Ter Stegen’s future is completely uncertain about ten and a half months before the World Cup start. After his injury, goalkeeper icon Sepp Maier brought a return from Manuel Neuer to a conversation. It is “the best solution,” said Maier, when national coach Julian Nagelsmann could move the Bayern goalkeeper to return. Ter Stegen, most recently the German number one, is probably at least until November – and should also be difficult to collect game practice afterwards, since he is currently outside at Barça.

Health problems have been accompanying ter for a long time. Last season he had been for a long time because of a serious knee injury. He was only operated on his back in December 2023. At that time he had to watch for three months.
