National soccer team: Nagelsmann relies on ter Stegen – if he plays in the club

Julian Nagelsmann continues to rely on Marc -André Ter as number one at the World Cup in the coming year – but under conditions. The German soccer coach made it clear that the goalkeeper from FC Barcelona, which has been decreasing longer due to back operation, also has to become a regular goalkeeper again.

“In the end he is our number one when he is healthy and the number one in the club,” said 38-year-old Nagelsmann at the international coaching congress in Leipzig. There are no considerations of a possible return of Manuel Neuer (39) from FC Bayern, the national coach said.

Only number three at FC Barcelona

With Ter Stegen, who is the number one in the German goal after the home European Championships last year and should go to the World Cup in the USA, Canada and Mexico as such in the coming year, he is in a “super exchange,” said Nagelsmann. It was totally bitter for the 33-year-old.

Ter Stegen had to undergo back operation again. It will fail for several months. After his severe knee injury last season, he will miss many games again.
