Here in Tokyo, from where I write to you the morning, there is oppressive heat. For days, the thermometer has risen to more than 30 degrees, the sun is popping. In Joensuu, the city has implemented an original idea to offer cooling. The local ice rink has been open to the public since Wednesday, as the Finnish newspaper reports. From 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., visitors can use the cool spectator ranks free of charge. Ice hockey is usually played in the hall, but now it is becoming a refuge in front of the heat.
