Climbing partner
Laura Dahlmeier was hit by “huge” stone
After Laura Dahlmeier’s death, her climbing partner is now speaking. Accordingly, the two broke off the climb – and were in the wrong place at the wrong time.
Laura Dahlmeier’s rope partner Marina Krauss has now commented on the course of the accident. Accordingly, the two climbers dropped the climb before reaching the summit at a height of 5700 meters. On the descent, Laura Dahlmeier was hit by the rockfall. “If we had been on it half an hour earlier, we would have come down,” said Krauss in a press round in the city of Skardu, as Bavarian Radio (BR24) reported.
The misfortune happened when abseiling. Laura Dahlmeier roped down as second. “I observed how the Laura hit a huge stone and how it was then thrown against the wall. From that moment she no longer moved,” said the climber, who was unharmed herself. It was not possible for her to get to the scene of the accident safely. The only way to help Laura was to call the helicopter.
Laura Dahlmeier turned over in front of the summit
“We knew that we would definitely do this technically that according to the weather forecast and when we just start at night that it is possible,” she said about the preparation. Nevertheless, they would have decided to turn around the mountain before reaching the summit.
