The weak Berliners beat the weak Berliners 2-1 (2-0) at the start of the 2nd Bundesliga. In front of 62,083 fans in the Gelsenkirchen arena, the home side took the lead early through Moussa Sylla (16th minute) and Nikola Katic (23rd). The Berlin connection hit by Sebastian Grönning came too late (89th). In added time, goal scorer Katic saw the yellow-red card (90.+8).
Hertha had little to oppose the opponent’s intensive game. Schalke was also closer to another goal in the second half. For the Berliners of coach Stefan Leitl, who actually finally want to go back to the Bundesliga on the third attempt, it is again a false start.
