Summer games in Los Angeles
Decree: Trump appoints Taskforce for 2028 Olympics
The US President is very present in sports. He also makes the coming summer games a top priority.
US President Donald Trump set up a task force for the upcoming Olympic Games in Los Angeles in 2028. Trump signed a corresponding decree in Washington in the presence of organization chief Casey Wasserman. According to his words, the summer games are among the events that he is most looking forward to during his second term. For the first time since the 2002 winter games in Salt Lake City, the United States is organizing Olympic Games again in three years.
Trump (79) had recently visited the final of the Club World Cup in New York a year before the World Cup in the USA, Canada and Mexico, but also caused irritation with his appearance at the award ceremony for Chelsea. Trump also installed a task force for the World Cup that had met for the first time in May. It also includes the President of the World Federation FIFA, Gianni Infantino.
“It is a great time to be a sports fan in America,” he said at the ceremony for the Olympic-Taskforce. Wassman presented Trump a set medals of the 1984 games. For the first time, Los Angeles was hosting in 1932.
Organizational leader: America’s games will be
Wasserman praised the set -up of the task force. Among other things, it is intended to coordinate the measures of federal, state and local authorities at security and transport. “Without them, we would not be here. This will truly be America’s games,” he said to Trump. The previous torchy run, with which the Olympic fire is brought to Los Angeles, should lead through all 50 states of the United States.
However, there are already controversy. The National Olympic and Paralympic Committee (Usopc) of the United States has in fact prohibited participation in Olympic sports. This supported Trump – without explicitly calling the decision – in his speech.
Wasserman had recently rejected growing concerns that athletes from certain countries could be denied participation in the summer games under the tightened entry conditions of the Trump government.
