Sports deporter legend Ulli Potofski is dead

Mourning in the sports and media world: The long-time RTL soccer presenter Ulli Potofski died at the age of 73. His last thanks to his partner.

The sports journalist Ulli Potofski died at the age of 73. This was confirmed by his former wife Monika Potofski on Wednesday of the German Press Agency (dpa). Previously, the “Bild” newspaper and its long-standing employer RTL had reported on the death.

Potofski commented and worked as a reporter on the edge of the field on the Pay TV.

Ulli Potofski was the face of RTL sports

Born in Gelsenkirchen, he has been one of the formative faces of sports reporting for decades since the 1980s. Potofski started at the WDR in the 1970s and switched to RTL in 1984. There he moderated the Bundesliga program “kick-off” and entertainment formats. In 1989 he received the Bambi as the most popular television presenter. In addition to sports events, he also reported on the domino day, which was broadcast annually at the Cologne TV station between 1998 and 2009.

Potofski has worked for premiere and later for Sky since 2006. He also ran his own podcast and appeared in shows like “Let’s Dance”.

Even at over 70, Potofski was still in the current day -to -day business. “An older team is always good,” said the journalist in 2023 the “Sport Bild” to his role. At that time he had extended for another two years at Sky.

Later he moved to Sky, where from 2006 he accompanied the Bundesliga and other major sporting events such as the tennis tournament in Wimbledon. Potofski also wrote several children’s books such as “Locke stays on the ball” or “Locke storms”.

Potofski thanked his partner on Instagram

On July 31, almost a week ago, Potofski spoke in his podcast “Heart, Soul, Ball” about his current hospital stay. “I ended up in my hospital again, hopefully I will be well looked after here. And heart, soul, ball continues,” said Potofski in a recognizable weakened voice. Potofski spoke about Schalke, Hertha, Fabian Reese – and “an exciting season” in the 2nd Bundesliga.

On July 6th, Potofski thanked her for the loyalty “in over ten years” for the last time and his partner Nadja.
