Cesar Parra
US dressage rider closed for 15 years for cruelty to animals
Dressage riders are repeatedly accused of cruelty to animals. The World Association has now sentenced a US athlete to a sensitive punishment.
With an unusually long lock of 15 years, the World Association Fei has occupied the US rider Cesar Parra. According to the FEI, the reason is violations of the principles of animal welfare. The dressage rider must also pay a fine of CHF 15,000 (just under CHF 16,000) and the court costs of CHF 10,000.
The Colombian -born had been temporarily suspended since February 2, 2024. The reason was reports on horse -drawn use that had been received by US Equestrian and were examined by FEI. According to Fei, the US association had “received numerous videos and photos that Parra showed with several horses in abusive behavior and training methods”.
Allegation: recurring and heavy cruelty to animals
The allegation in the FEI procedure was “that Parra repeats over several years and deliberately most, if not all horses he owned and trained, recurring and severe abuse”. The message said: “The examination included a thorough review of extensive video and photo recordings.”
Parra had participated in international competitions since 1998, initially for his home country of Colombia, including at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens. After the change of nationality in 2008, Parra competed for the United States at the Pan -American Games 2011.
