Head coach of FC Khimki Igor Cherevchenko left his post. This was announced on Tuesday, February 22, on the official website of the club.
The contract with Cherevchenko was terminated by mutual decision of the parties. In addition, it is noted that the work in the club is completed by its coaching staff.
“Thanks to the team, administrative staff and management for their professionalism and diligence. We did a good job at the training camp, but then another specialist will work with the team, ”the press service of the club quoted Cherevchenko as saying.
As Vladimir Gabulov, general director of Khimki, noted, the decision to terminate the contract was difficult, but balanced. He said that there was little time left before the restart of Tinkoff of the Russian Premier League (RPL), at the moment the club “needs a new emotional outburst.”
“The team is waiting for a difficult end of the season. We hope that the work that Igor Gennadievich has done with his coaching staff will help the team in the championship,” Gabulov said.
As the Sport-Express website notes, at the moment Khimki are on the 16th line in the RPL table. In the match of the 19th round, the club will play with Dynamo. The game will take place on February 26th.
In October 2021, FC Khimki already terminated the contract with Cherevchenko. Instead, Igor Yushchenko was appointed acting head of the club. Three weeks after the resignation, Cherevchenko returned to the post of head coach.
Cherevchenko has served as head coach since the fall of 2020. Last season, the team was able to take eighth place in the RPL standings.
