Dispute at FC Barcelona
Opportunity for rivals: Ter Stegen officially long-term failure
The FC Barcelona goalkeeper theater has already employed the Spanish champion throughout the summer. Now there is another development at Marc-André Ter Stegen.
The summer theater between FC Barcelona, the German national goalkeeper Marc-André Ter Stegen and his new rival Joan Garcia is enriched by an episode. The medical committee of the Spanish football league officially classified Ter Stegen’s back surgery as a long-term injury. This enables the highly indebted FC Barcelona to officially register Garcia for league games as the new number one in June.
This formal act was preceded by a violent and partly public dispute between Barça and his long -time German regular keeper. Ter Stegen apparently initially refused his club to pass on his injury report to the league. The FC Barcelona then initiated a disciplinary procedure against him and withdrawn the function as captain.
It was only last week that Ter Stegen agreed to forward his medical data. Since then, the 33-year-old has been captain of the Spanish master again despite a downtime of several months.
Its classification as a long-term injury is important for the club for financial reasons. In this case, according to the statutes, Barça can use 80 percent of the salary of a failing player to register a new player. García came from the city rival Espanyol Barcelona for around 25 million euros and is supposed to replace ter Stegen as a stammering goalkeeper.
