A summer thunderstorm has confused Erik Ten Hag’s competitive premiere as a coach of Bayer Leverkusen. The first round game in the DFB Cup of the Bundesliga club at the regional league team SG Sonnenhof Großaspach was interrupted after almost 20 minutes.
Referee Michael Bacher sent both teams at 0-0 for the cabins. The game continued after a break of around 40 minutes.
Ten Hag’s competitive premiere for Leverkusen in the DFB Cup
Violent rain had already started a few minutes before the game. Later there were hail, thunder and gusts of wind.
For ten HAG it is the first competitive game as a Bayer coach. The Dutch, once under contract with Ajax Amsterdam and Manchester United, followed the former master coach Xabi Alonso in Leverkusen this summer. Ten HAG has a large change in the Double winner of 2024. Several top performers, including the German international Florian Wirtz and Jonathan Tah, left the Werkself during the current transfer period.
