Leverkusen continued after interruption, three small failures
Three outsiders defend themselves against the cup start without success. Bayer Leverkusen is experiencing an unusual game with a Swabian regional league.
Bayer Leverkusen’s new coach Erik Ten Hag has won his competitive game debut in the DFB Cup with a little effort and some delay. The long weak runner -up prevailed 4-0 (1-0) at SG Sonnenhof Großaspach after the game was interrupted for about 40 minutes due to a thunderstorm. In the first round, in addition to the Swabian regional league, the outsiders 1. FC Saarbrücken and FC Gütersloh.
The Saarlanders lost 1: 3 (0: 2) to the second division club, which plays one class higher. Regional league club Gütersloh moved against Bundesliga club 1. FC Union Berlin 0: 5 (0: 3).

At the Bayer appearance, referee Michael Bacher sent both teams into the cabin after less than 20 minutes because of the thunderstorm. After the interruption, striker Patrik Schick headed for the lead (32nd). Although Großaspach’s captain Volkan Celiktas saw yellow-red (66.), Leverkusen did not spill out with fame.
The Brazilian Arthur then made 2: 0 (74th) before Mert Tasdelen flew off the square with smooth red. Christian Kofane (84th) and Alejandro Grimaldo (87th/Elfmeter) increased to 3: 0 and 4: 0.
In the Saarbrücken Ludwigspark, the surprise cup semi-finalist from 2024 initially did not show any class difference to the Magdeburgers. Almost out of nowhere, however, the guests countered the Saarlanders: Martijn Kaars scored 1-0 (43.). New signing Rayan Ghrieb (45.+2, 59.) scored twice for Magdeburg before Tim Civeja (67th) shortened to 1: 3.
Union meets, but not convinced properly
Union and coach Steffen Baumgart came to Gütersloh after difficult preparation, but presented in the 19th minute: Robert Skov scored a direct free kick from about 19 meters.
In front of 4500 fans who traveled along, Leopold increased across the field and Danilho Doekhi for the iron to 2: 0 (35th) and 3: 0 (43.) against the regional league – each after one corner. However, the Berliners did not achieve much from the game, even if Andrej Ilic (78th) and Woo-Yeong Jeong (90.+4) still met.
