Strong gesture: Radstar Lipowitz on D-Tour as a water carrier

Radstar Florian Lipowitz is celebrated on the first stage of the Germany Tour – also as a helper for his colleagues. In the mass sprint, a Briton defeats the favorite.

Germany’s new bike star Florian Lipowitz stuffed himself under his jersey and hurried back from the team wagon to his teammates back into the peloton. The third of the Tour de France liked to take on the role of the water carrier for its Red Bull teammates on the first stage of the Deutschland Tour. The 24-year-old mountain specialist returned something for the support he received on the Tour of France on the flat section over 202.6 kilometers from Essen to Herford.

“I did it super -blinders today, the boys were also partly on the tour, if I can give my part a bit, then I am happy,” said the young Swabian of the ARD. The D tour for Lipowitz is not very important in terms of sport. After his coup in France, he treated himself to a good two -week break with a vacation in South Tyrol and on Lake Garda.

“I was just happy to get away from cycling. It wasn’t that easy, but I was able to recover well. The harder is the entry – even though it was flat today, it was exhausting for me today,” said Lipowitz, who also won the white jersey of the best young driver on the France tour. Along the route, the vertical starter from Laichingen was enthusiastically celebrated by the fans.

Staff victory for Brennan – Lipowitz teammate is wearing blue jersey

The British Matthew Brennan won the stage in the mass sprint in front of the favorite Jonathan Milan from Italy. The Dutch Danny van Poppel took third place. Milan had won three stages on the D tour last year. The best German was Jonathan Malte Rottmann in tenth place. The blue jersey of the overall leader in the only stage race in Germany is now wearing Lipowitz ‘teammate Van Poppel.

After the start in the shadow of the Weltkulturer Zeche Zeche Zollverein, a four-member group with the German drivers Vinzent Dorn, Jon Knolle, Miguel Heidemann and the American Andrew August used the opportunity to stage themselves on the longest stage of the D tour. In the meantime, the quartet was able to drive out a lead of almost 3:30 minutes. The last two outliers were also put from the main field about 10 kilometers before the finish.

Degenkolb consists of the first endurance test after heavy fall

The former Paris Roubaix winner John Degenkolb also rolled over the finish line with the main field. The now 36 -year -old veteran from Thuringia survived the first endurance test after his severe fall in April with several breaks in the wrist, forearm, elbow and collarbone.

The day before, he had celebrated his comeback at the short prologue in Essen after more than four months after his fall on the Tour of Flanders. In an interview at ZDF-Heute.de, Degenkolb described the time until the return.

The second stage of the D tour leads the cycling professionals over 190.3 kilometers from Herford to Arnsberg to the Sauerland. The five -day stage race ends on Sunday in Magdeburg.
