At the beginning of December, the groups for the 2026 World Cup are drawn. Most recently, Las Vegas had speculated as a place for the ceremony – but it turns differently.

According to US President Donald Trump, the draw about the 2026 World Cup will take place in Washington on December 5. As a place, the Republican announced the Kennedy Center cultural institution in the capital of the United States.

FIFA President Gianni Infantino also took part in the announcement of the draw. Most recently, it had been speculated that the draw in Las Vegas was organized – the last World Championship in the United States had been loosened at the last World Championship in 1994.

The tournament with 48 nations in the USA, Mexico and Canada will increase in the summer of 2026. The opening game is scheduled for June 11th in Mexico City. The final will take place on July 19 in East Rutherford near New York.

At the Club World Cup this summer, FIFA had been looking for proximity to Trump-and, among other things, held a press conference with the US President in the Trump Tower in New York. “You can’t think of organizing such a competition without the absolute support and the full commitment of the respective government. My big thank you goes to President Trump and his entire team. They were fantastic,” said World Association CEO Back then.

DFB selection starts in qualification in early September

In addition to the three hosts USA, Mexico and Canada, ten more nations have qualified in sports. In addition to world champion Argentina, Ecuador and record winner of Brazil are also present from South America. For this purpose, Australia, Japan, Iran, South Korea, Jordan, Uzbekistan and New Zealand have solved their ticket.

The German team starts in advance in Bratislava on September 4th. The qualification group A with the opponents Slovakia, Northern Ireland and Luxembourg is considered a mandatory task for the team of national coach Julian Nagelsmann.

At the time of the draw, only 42 of the 48 participants will be determined. Six other nations – including four from Europe – will only solve their ticket in Playoff games in March 2026. Those six participants should be drawn as a placeholder in the draw.
