Ski jumping scandal: locking for Norwegian athletes
Norway’s ski jumper manipulated their suits at the World Cup. A world champion is also involved in the cause. Now there is a judgment.
In the manipulation scandal around Norway’s ski jumper, the two top athletes Marius Lindvik and André Forfang have been sentenced to a lock of three months. The World Association FIS with its Ethics Commission FEC. The athletes already accepted the sanctions. There is no question of a subsequent disqualification, which Andreas Wellinger would have benefited from the normal hill behind Lindvik as a second of the Normal hill.
The time already served is to be deducted from the three -month lock. Lindvik and Forfang had already been suspended for around three weeks after the World Cup scandal. In addition, fines of CHF 2,000 were now imposed.
The title fights at the end of February and early March were overshadowed by the scandal for manipulated suits. On anonymously filmed and published videos, it was seen how the Norwegian team of competition suits edited in an inadmissible way. An unauthorized seam was attached, which should provide more stability in the air in the air.
Judgment against three supervisors still open
During the World Cup, three supervisors and five jumpers were temporarily suspended. According to the investigations by the independent ethics office – 38 witnesses were interviewed in five months and 88 evidence spotted – only world champion Lindvik and team Olympic champion Johann André Forfang remained. Both now agreed that they should have checked the nightly adjustments and ask questions. However, they are not accused of any actual knowledge of the manipulations.
It is still open how the responsible persons are judged. The Norwegian broadcaster TV2 had recently reported that the head coach Magnus Brevig and two assistants would be sought.
Lindvik had won gold in front of Wellinger on the normal hill. He also won and Forfang medals with the team and the mixed selection.
