The German team dominates its second World Cup game. Now the showdown is waiting for group victory against Poland. A player comes back.

The video review of the transformed match ball against Vietnam delayed the cheers of the German volleyball players briefly. But then the DVV players were able to look forward to the group victory for the round of 16 at the World Cup and the showdown with Poland.

“I think we don’t need to hide the fact that we have a huge chance to win this group,” said foreign attacker Hanna Orthmann with a view to the game against the German neighbors on Wednesday (3:30 p.m./ZDF.de). “Due to the victories, we take the energy with us. Two times 3: 0. That pushes us again.”

Against the Asian women, the German team showed a significantly more confident idea than at the sometimes somewhat bumpy start against Kenya on Saturday. “The joy is super great. It was a mandatory victory, but it is not that easy because there is a certain pressure behind,” said Lina Alsmeier after the game in the Phuket Thai.

DVV women dominate quickly

The team of national coach Giulio Bregoli won 3: 0 (25:18, 25:17, 25:21) against the outsider and secured one of the first two places in Group G. As against Kenya, the German team initially had minor problems on the defensive, which it quickly got under control. From the middle of the first set, the selection of the German Volleyball Association then dominated and settled.

In the second set, the DVV players finally found their rhythm and were quickly ahead. Orthmann, who moved into the starting line -up, emerged with a few strong actions. In the end she was the second most successful German attacker with 14 points.

Orthmann back after a long time of suffering

It was a particularly nice game for the 26-year-old. At home two years ago, she had seriously injured her knee in the opening game after a few minutes. It was only this summer that she celebrated her comeback in the national team.

“It was really fun with the girls and for me it is just nice to be back and to be there at such a big tournament,” she said. In addition, the block with captain Camilla Weitzel (15 points) and the impression was released. The Vietnames were able to run longer in the third set, but the German team survived this small phase of weakness without any major problems.

With the world ranking third Poland, another caliber is now waiting. The balance sheet in recent years has not been rosy. “Of course we know the Poles a little better, also have an open bill with them,” said Alsmeier. “What we can take with us is certainly that we have developed a good self -confidence about the last two games.”

In second place in the round of the last 16 there is a threat of a meeting with the Olympic champions from Italy, who have so far celebrated two very clear victories at the tournament.
