Chaos at US Open: Photographer sees himself as a “victim”
Because a photographer ran to the pitch too early, there was a turmoil at the US Open. The photojournalist, who was responsible for this, feels badly treated.
Already in the first round, the US Open experienced their big excitement this year. At the match between Daniil Medledew and Benjamin Bonzi, a photographer ran to the pitch too early – in the middle of Bonzi’s match ball. The referee decided that the surcharge had to be repeated, which in turn drove Medvedev to white glow.
The match was interrupted for more than six minutes because of a photographer who would have preferred to be sunk in the ground. The American Selcuk Acar has already accompanied many games and tournaments and is considered an experienced photojournalist. Because of this episode, he not only attracted the resentment of many tennis fans. The US Tennis Association as the organizer of the US Open collected Acar to accredit the Grand Slam tournament. Rightly right?
Photographer complains of chaos at US Open about “Lynchmob”
The freelance photographer feels treated incorrectly. “I’m not a photographer who makes such a mistake,” he told the “Daily Mail”. The trigger for the whole chaos was a misunderstanding. A folder reported to him that the game was interrupted, he describes it to the British newspaper. He himself hesitated: “If a camera is there, if everything is monitored, you will see that I returned to the official twice and only went to the pitch afterwards.”
He would not have run on the court early on itself, acar asserts with reference to his many years of professional experience and says: “I am a victim and completely innocent.” The photographer complained to the “Daily Mail” criticism and hostility: “A lynch mob has already developed from this incident, and although I am innocent, I suffered a lot.”
The US tennis association contradicts the representation of the photographer. He had not adhered to the instructions, so he had been withdrawn from the accreditation.
Medvedev was annoyed by the referee – not about the photographer
After the game, Daniil Medledew emphasized that his displeasure against the referee had directed: “I was not angry with the photographer. I was angry with the decision.” The referee had the Frenchman Bonzi repeat his first serve. Medvedev then complained loudly and stuck the spectators, who also boosted loudly. In the end, the Russian was still lost in five sets.
