No space for Schumacher: Cadillac fetches Pérez and Bottas

The new Formula 1 racing team announces its driver duo for the coming season. They are two old acquaintances. A German has to be patient.

For Mick Schumacher, another chance of a Formula 1 return. The Mexican Sergio Pérez and the Finn Valtteri Bottas were presented as the driver of the new US team Cadillac.

The six-time Grand Prix winner Pérez had taken a motor sports break this year. In addition to his experience from 281 races, the veteran at Cadillac also brings several million US dollars from private sponsors. The vice world champion of 2023 had to leave Red Bull at the end of last season after a permanent low despite the valid contract until the end of 2026.

The former Mercedes driver Bottas (35) was hired as the second driver. Last year the Finn had driven for the clean team before returning to Mercedes as a replacement driver. Mick Schumacher (26) was recently considered one of the candidates for a Cadillac cockpit, but his hopes of returning to Formula 1 will probably not fulfill again.

In the meantime, Dan Towriss, as Cadillac Managing Director, has rejected speculation about Chris Horner’s possible commitment. Horner had had to go as Red Bull team boss this season after over 20 years. There were no conversations and this was not planned, said Towriss.

In 2026, Cadillac joins Formula 1 as an eleventh racing team and is considered an absolute outsider. After a long struggle with the other teams and those responsible for the racing series, the US car maker had also received permission to participate in the premier class of motorsport at pressure from the World Association FIA.
