Lys and Siegemund successful despite handicaps at US Open
Lys still feels her back, victory plays played with a bandaged thigh. But both tennis players cannot be stopped at the start of the US Open.
With convincing ideas, the tennis players Eva Lys and Laura Siegemund provided German bright spots despite physical handicaps at the US Open. Lys won her opening game in New York with slight back problems against British qualifier Francesca Jones after a glamorous start with 6: 0, 7: 5.
Siegemund fought with bandaged thighs to 7: 6 (7: 3), 2: 6, 6: 3 against the favorite Russian Diana Schnaider. In doing so, she made her strong results from the quarter -finals in Wimbledon.
“Providing people a good show gives me a good feeling,” said Australian Open-Finalist Lys. “I was able to build a lot of confidence, especially at the last tournaments.”
The family is happy
How much she was happy shows that for her victories at Grand-Slam tournaments are not a matter of course despite their sensational run from Australia. She hugged her parents and her younger sister warmly.
The Hamburg native impressed in particular in sentence one and proved that she had the more fast -paced basic strokes in the repertoire than the British. A complicated task is now waiting against the Czech Linda Noskova placed in position 21 to reach the third round for the first time in New York.
Lys drags health concerns
In Cleveland last week, Lys had withdrawn before the quarter -finals – because she hurt her back because of her rheumatic autoimmune disease.
“After the last tournament, this is certainly a topic that I carry with me. The hope is of course always there that the back does not get worse during the match. Sometimes it is a bit in mind,” said Lys. “I feel my back, but it’s something I can play with.” Her opponent also plays with a handicap. Jones has four fingers and a total of seven toes due to a gene defect on both hands.
Two out of three German tennis women in round two
Just a few meters away from Lys, Siegemund had to work on the next place much longer before they were allowed to cheer. Because of a muscle injury to the thigh, the 37-year-old had been with little expectations.
“In principle, I couldn’t do a sport for ten days, and in principle I was able to swing the trowel for another week.
In the coming game against the Russian Anastassija Sacharova, she must be careful not to risk the coming tournaments, the Metzer reported. With the recommendation of Monterrey’s tournament victory, Schnaider had traveled to New York directly in front of the US Open and set 20.
Thanks to the success of Siegemund and Lys, a German women’s duo is in the second round. The Schwäbin Tatjana Maria was eliminated on Monday.
