Schröder feels misunderstood after interview

Basketball star Dennis Schröder triggered debates with an interview. Now the German captain comments again – and also admits its own mistake.

Basketball captain Dennis Schröder has explained his much-noticed interview statements for comparison with Dirk Nowitzki and is partly unjustly presented in the German media. “They try to trick you to get something out of what you can use to get attention. That is my feeling,” said Schröder in the podcast “you can’t say”, which is moderated by athletic coach Arne Greskowiak and professional Moritz Wagner.

The “Stern” had published an interview with 31 -year -old world champion last week. Among other things, Schröder had said that he would “never get the same love in this country as Dirk Nowitzki” and justified this with his skin color.

Schröder: “Negativity very, very high”

According to the published statements, Schröder also feels misunderstood, but also indicated his own mistake. “Unfortunately they came back and put it in the wrong light. My wife and I might have to do a better job to read it again and say: Listen,” said Schröder.

The statements that followed a question about the role as an Olympic flag bearer for Germany resulted in debates. While Nowitzki gave this honor in Beijing in Beijing, world champion Schröder was allowed to cite the German Olympian in Paris last year. Schröder stated that compared to other nations, the “negativity in Germany is definitely very, very high”.

In the episode entitled “What Dennis Schröder drives”, Schröder also made it clear that he did not want a sporting comparison with the Nowitzki, who was assigned in 2019. “I don’t want to compare myself to a Dirk. Dirk has changed basketball, Dirk is the man in Germany – all over the world. He has brought a revolution in basketball. Who am I try to compare myself with it?” Said Schröder.

The German team starts this Wednesday (3:30 p.m./Magentasport and RTL) in the European Championship and meets Montenegro at the start. After 2022, playmaker Schröder and his team want to get the third common medal in their own country and the World Cup triumph of Manila 2023.
