Dressage European Championship: Despite mistakes at the start of the Gold Square

The German team starts weakly at the European Championship. However, a debutantian ensures first place.

Despite a weak appearance by Ingrid Klimke, the German team is in first place at the European Dressage Championships after the first day. The European Championship debutante Katharina Hemmer showed a sovereign performance with Denoix in the title fights in Crozet, French and took the lead.

Germany lies in front of defending champion Great Britain and Denmark. The two strongest couples of each team start on Thursday in the second half of the starting field, and only count the three best results of each quartet. For Germany, Isabell Werth rides with Wendy and Frederic Wandres with Bluetooth, who were part of the victorious team at the Olympic Games in Paris last year.

The experienced climate disappointed

Klimke already had problems with Vayron when preparing. The two-time versatility Olympic champion received only 69.348 percent for her Grand Prix. In the end, the 57-year-old should be the German string result.

Hemmer did better. After the team’s disappointing start, the EM debutant kept her nerve and rode a strong round with Denoix at her first championship. She received 75.699 percent, the best result of the first day.

The decision about the team medals is made on Thursday afternoon. Further medals are available on Friday and Sunday in the individual ratings Grand Prix Special and Früh.
