Honored Master of Sports of Russia, boxer Alexander Povetkin has become a mentor to world amateur boxing champion Mark Petrovsky, who will make his professional debut with Collins Oyal on February 25 as part of the REN TV Fight Club.
Povetkin visited Petrovsky’s training and personally spoke with him.
“The main thing is to bomb, not to give up, not to fall. This is just the beginning,” Povetkin said.
He stated that he was confident in Petrovsky. According to Povetkin, the world boxing champion must show himself well in a duel with a strong opponent. At the same time, he stressed that Petrovsky’s career was just beginning.
“I am sure that in the first professional fight he will do well. Moreover, he has a good opponent. It will be an interesting fight. Technique? Of course he has good technique. This is the world champion, so definitely,” he said.
Petrovsky admitted that it was a great honor for him to personally meet such a figure in the boxing world.
“A couple of photos of joint, maybe it was when I was still small. Personal conversation for the first time. Yes, it is inspiring when Russian boxers of this level support us. I myself watched the fights of Alexander Povetkin. A very persistent fighter, he always showed a Russian character. This is an example for me,” said Petrovsky.
According to promoter Vladimir Khryunov, it was no coincidence that Povetkin became Petrovsky’s mentor before such a responsible fight.
“Because Sasha is a very big name in boxing. He spent his life and health on it. It’s time for successors. I thank Sasha for agreeing to support. Sasha always had it in his soul, he always worried about the Russian guys. I think that this mentorship will add strength and give its result, ”explained Khryunov.
Earlier, on February 20, boxer Alexei Tishchenko said that he was confident that Mark Petrovsky was ready for his professional debut as a heavyweight. In a conversation with Izvestia, he said that he had no doubts about Petrovsky and knew that he would demonstrate all his qualities in a fight with Collins Oyal.
Prior to that, on February 13, Khryunov admitted to fears before Petrovsky’s debut fight against Oyala. He noted that the African “even surpasses” the Russian in some ways. Khryunov explained that Oyal can start to intercept attacks, be productive and go forward.
REN TV Fight Club will be held on February 25. The main fight of the evening will be the fight between Olanrevaju Durodola and Magomed Ismailov. For the Russian, this will be the first fight according to the rules of boxing. Viewers of REN TV will be able to watch it live.
