Nagelsmann nominates three newcomers – and strokes a star
Julian Nagelsmann named the squad for the next two World Cup qualification games. In addition to three young players, there is a bigger surprise.
With the newcomers Namdi Collins, Paul Nebel and Finn Dahmen, but without the well-known offensive players Leroy Sané and Deniz Undav, Julian Nagelsmann starts the World Cup season. The national coach appointed the three newcomers to his 23 player comprehensive contingent for the first two qualification games of the German national football team in Slovakia and against Northern Ireland in the coming week.
Back in the DFB team, Vice captain Antonio Rüdiger von Real Madrid and the Stuttgart Angelo Stiller are back in the Final Four finals of the Nations League in June. Stillers teammate Jamie Leweling and the Mainz Nadiem Amiri were also taken into account again.
Three European Vice European Champions
In the Frankfurter Collins (21) and the Mainz Nebel (22), Nagelsmann rewarded two players of the U21 in addition to the Stuttgart Nick Woltemade (23), which was already tried and tested in the A-Elf, who only missed the title win at the European Championship in the summer. As the third goalkeeper, the Augsburger Dahmen (27) was preferred to U21 goalkeeper Noah Atubolu (23) by SC Freiburg, who was initially nominated on call.
Nagelsmann has to replace four injured starting eleven players in Stammtorwart Marc-André Ter Stegen as well as Jamal Musiala, Kai Havertz and Nico Schlotterbeck. In addition to Woltemade, fan favorite Niclas Füllkrug was also nominated as a striker despite the most recently mixed appearances at West Ham United.
Leroy Sané is out for now
Nagelsmann, on the other hand, kept no space on the offensive for Sané after his change from FC Bayern to Galatasaray Istanbul and the Stuttgart Undav. The Munich Aleksandar Pavlovic (facial fracture) and Tom Bishop (appendix) have not yet been appointed after their operations.

Captain Joshua Kimmich is listed. With the Bayern professional, the national coach is planning again in the sixth position and has to find another right defender. Collins, like BVB routine Pascal, is a candidate.
The first game on the way to the World Cup finals is on September 4 in Bratislava against Slovakia. Three days later, Northern Ireland in Cologne is the next opponent. Group A of Luxembourg is completed. Only the group winner solves the direct World Cup ticket. The World Cup group draw will take place on December 5th in Washington. The final round with 48 teams for the first time hosted the USA, Mexico and Canada from June 11 to July 19, 2026.
