Speer thrower Weber and obstacle runner Ruppert celebrate victories
Speer thrower Julian Weber exceeds the 90-meter brand twice at the World Cup general rehearsal in Zurich. Obstacle runner Frederik Ruppert also wins, while long jump star Malaika Mihambo becomes second.
Speer launcher Julian Weber and obstacle runner Frederik Ruppert showed themselves in an outstanding form during the dress rehearsal for the World Athletics Championship in Tokyo. Both won the Diamond League final in Zurich and once again collected confidence for the highlight of the season with strong performances, which takes place from September 13th to September 21st. The long jump star Malaika Mihambo, which had to be beaten barely, was also convincing in the Lastigrund stadium.
At the World Cup general rehearsal in Switzerland, Weber cracked the magical 90-meter brand twice before the eyes of tennis legend Roger Federer. He clearly won with 91.51 meters and improved his world year best and personal record by 45 centimeters. Second, the Indian Neraj Chopra was 85.01 meters.
“I knew I was in a good mood. But I wouldn’t have thought that it works so well,” said Weber, who was on the gold medal in Tokyo.
Ruppert “feels great”
Ruppert secured the victory over the 3,000 meters of obstacle and thus underpinned its great shape this year. The 28-year-old ran a time of 8: 09.02 minutes and referred the Kenyan Edmund Serem (8: 09.96 minutes) and Salaheddine Ben Yazide from Morocco (8: 14.10 minutes).
“I know I’m fit for Tokyo. It just feels great,” said Ruppert on ZDF with a view of the World Cup. In Japan, the final is the minimum goal. After the convincing dress rehearsal, Ruppert should be even more likely to be trusted. “Better to stack and surprise a little deeper than big tones and then nothing behind it,” said Ruppert, who had improved the German record to 8: 01.49 minutes about three months ago in the Moroccan Rabat.
In the last attempt, Mihambo achieved a set to 6.92 meters in the last attempt and narrowly missed the victory that Italian Larissa Iapichino won with 6.93 meters.
Abdilaahi with personal record
Mohamed Abdilaahi achieved a personal best over the 3,000 meters. The 26-year-old ran to a good fourth place in the victory of the Frenchman Jimmy Gressier (7: 36.78 minutes) in 7: 37.31 minutes.
Lea Meyer was eighth over the 3,000 meters of obstacle in 9: 26.08 minutes. At the success of the Kenyan Faith Kipyegon (8: 57.24 minutes), former European champion Gesa Krause ran as a cruise. The 33-year-old then got out prematurely as planned.
Discus thrower Janssen sixth, farken in nine rank
Discus thrower Henrik Janssen landed in a close decision in the sixth and thus last place. In his best attempt, the 27-year-old succeeded in a width of 66.37 meters. World record holder Mykolas Alekna from Lithuania won the victory with 68.89 meters.
Robert Farken had to be satisfied with ninth place over the 1,500 meters despite a solid time of 3: 31.30 minutes. Niels Laros, Niels Laros, won 3: 29.20 minutes.
