The German basketball stars earn so much money
If you want to make a lot of money with basketball, you have to switch to the NBA – like some German players. The top earner even plays in German sport in the DBB team.
The German basketball players have a run: only the world championship title 2023, then last year the silver medal at the Olympic Games in Paris, where the DBB team only failed in the final in the final. Is gold now at the European Championship?
The key role plays in particular the German players who are active in the North American professional league NBA. There they not only compete with the best opponents in the world, but also get exorbitant salaries-as usual in US sports. Franz Wagner reached this status last year with his contract signing at Orlando Magic. According to ESPN, he will receive at least $ 224 million (192 million euros) by 2030. With premiums, the volume of the contract can even increase to $ 269 million (231 million euros). The annual salary of the 24-year-old is between the equivalent of 38 and 53 million euros.
Wagner’s older brother Moritz plays in the same team, but has to bake a little smaller rolls. With his current contract, Moritz Wagner comes to the equivalent of almost 19 million euros in two years – i.e. 9.5 million euros annually. At the European Championship, the 28-year-old is missing due to an injury.
Another top earner missed the European Championship for problems with the Achilles tendon: Isaiah Hartenstein (Oklahoma City Thunder) is only the second German after Dirk Nowitzki, who won the NBA championship. The center collects $ 29 million per year (the equivalent of around 25 million euros).
Dennis Schröder, the superstar of the DBB selection, changed the team this summer and is now playing for the Sacramento Kings. In three years he is expected to earn $ 45 million there (equivalent to 38.7 million euros). This corresponds to an annual income of almost 13 million in euros.
In contrast to the experienced Schröder, Tristan de Silva is still quite new in the NBA. Like the Wagner brothers, he competes for Orlando Magic. His salary is around $ 3.6 million annually (3.1 million euros).
Lower salaries in the Bundesliga
While sometimes dizzying sums are paid in the NBA, it is much more down -to -earth in Germany. According to estimates, top players in the basketball Bundesliga (BBL) deserve medium six-digit sums. The sums here are not as transparent as in US sports.
However, the German co-captain Johannes Voigtmann from Bayern Munich is said to be a million euros gross. He is already at the top in the BBL. For comparison: the minimum content in the NBA is $ 1.1 million.
If the European Championships are going well, the German basketball players also have success premiums from the association. Captain Schröder did not want to comment on the exact height, he only revealed the “Braunschweiger Zeitung”: “We have come to a denominator, and the bonuses are now clearly written down. They are fair from our side.”
