Grand Prix of the Netherlands
Displacement for the Formula 1 start in Zandvoort in the gravel bed
Formula 1 is back from the summer break. In the first training session in Zandvoort, nothing changes in the balance of power. World champion Verstappen not only drives the McLaren pilot afterwards.
Formula 1 world champion Max Verstappen started his home game in Zandvoort with a damper. In the first training session before the Grand Prix of the Netherlands, the Red Bull star was only sixth behind and ended up in the gravel bed in the end. The 27-year-old was 0.940 seconds behind the World Cup second Lando Norris, which set the best time in the McLaren.
Bitter for Verstappen: In the end, he couldn’t drive back into the box. After the end of the training, he did a starting exercise and shortly afterwards landed next to the route. “I’m stuck,” said Verstappen on his box and shook my head frustrated frustrated. At first it was not clear what the reason for the involuntary departure at the end of the start-finish line was without the action of another driver.
The overall leading Oscar Piatri meanwhile steered his McLaren in second place, behind it was surprisingly third in the Aston Martin. The Rhinelander Nico Hülkenberg came in 13th place.
Dreister and departure at the beginning
First world champion Lewis Hamilton turned in his stubborn Ferrari and Yuki Tsunoda in the Red Bull, then the practice unit even had to be interrupted early. Kimi Antonelli flew off the slopes, the Italian’s Mercedes was recovered with a crane. After just six minutes, the training for Antonelli was over, he was only allowed to watch.
In strong winds and overall challenging conditions, the seven -minute interruption continued. McLaren once more dominated the one -hour training and left the strongest impression on the course with the striking steep curve in the dunes. For the second training session in the afternoon, heavy rain is sometimes expected, which could ensure chaos for the first time before the Grand Prix on Sunday (3 p.m./Sky).
Close World Cup fight between Piatri and Norris
In the world’s outstanding races, Piatri only leads in the World Cup ranking with nine points ahead of teammate Norris. Defending champion Verstappen is already 97 points behind the Australian Piatri, who can become world champion for the first time. The four -time Champion Verstappen had won the Grand Prix in his home country three times in a row until 2023 before he finished second behind Norris last year.
