FC Bayern reacts to Woltemade Transfer: “Financially different league”

Sports director Christoph Freund from FC Bayern Munich sees the upcoming move from Nick Woltemade to England as another signal for the different balance of power in European football. The German champion also tried intensively for the 23-year-old shooting star of VfB Stuttgart. However, it is now facing a transfer for up to 90 million euros to Newcastle United.

Bayern are nevertheless a “very, very big” and “very, very attractive” club, said Freund. The players would feel good and could win titles. Ultimately, it is always the decision of a player himself, where he sees his next career step.

The Premier League games “financially in a different league,” said the Austrian. “But we as Bayern Munich are also very, very strong and are aware of our role.” You just have to go your own way, cannot copy that of the English clubs. It has long been like that the Premier League clubs have more money. Nevertheless, there are always teams that could keep up in terms of sport.

Above all, the many income from television money would make the difference, explained Bayern coach Vincent Kompany. The ex-professional trained the English Club FC Burnley before moving to Munich. “I still remember when we got up with Burnley. Suddenly you had TV money of 100 million euros-for a climber,” said Kompany.

Will Bayern land a transfer coup themselves by Monday? The striker Nicolas Jackson from Chelsea is under discussion. Something else could happen, said Freund in general. “There are conversations, but nothing new to announce.”
