Grand Prix of the Netherlands
Verstappen in Formula 1 training in Zandvoort without a chance
Formula 1 is back from the summer break. There are many interruptions in training in Zandvoort. World champion Verstappen not only drives the McLaren pilot afterwards.
Formula 1 world champion Max Verstappen started his home game in Zandvoort with some problems. In training before the Grand Prize of the Netherlands, the Red Bull star in the two units only took six and five places in the two units, and he also made a rare departure into the gravel bed.
Lando Norris turned the fastest round of the day in the McLaren. The Briton made it in 1: 09.890 minutes just ahead of Fernando Alonso in Aston Martin and the World Cup leading Oscar Piatri in the second McLaren. The Rhinelander Nico Hülkenberg came to tenth tenth at the end of the day.
Bitter for Verstappen: After the first training session in the early afternoon, the 27-year-old could not go back to the box. At the end he completed a starting exercise and then landed next to the route. “I’m stuck,” sparked Verstappen and shook my head frustrated. What was the reason for the mistake at the end of the start-finish line remained open at first.
Accidents make interruptions necessary
In strong wind, at times rain and overall challenging conditions, McLaren dominated the two training sessions and left the strongest impression on the course in the dunes. In the qualification on Saturday and in the Grand Prix on Sunday (3 p.m./Sky), there could be chaos due to changeable weather with some heavy rain.
A few hours after his surprising third place in the first training session, Lance Stroll completely destroyed his Aston Martin. The Canadian misjudged in a steep curve and hit the right side with the right side. The suspensions of the wheels immediately broke, the car had to be recovered with a crane before it only continued after an interruption.
It wasn’t the only faux pas after the three -week summer break. Record world champion Lewis Hamilton turned twice in his stubborn Ferrari, and Yuki Tsunoda also lost control in the Red Bull. Because Kimi Antonelli flew off the slopes at noon, there was a forced break as well as after a ride by Albon through the gravel bed.
Close World Cup fight between Piatri and Norris
In the world’s outstanding races, Piatri only leads in the World Cup ranking with nine points ahead of teammate Norris. Defending champion Verstappen is already 97 points behind the Australian Piatri. The four -time Champion Verstappen had won the Grand Prix in his home country three times by 2023.
