The Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) has rescheduled the men’s open tournament in the second half of 2022 from St. Petersburg to Nur-Sultan, according to a game calendar published on its website on February 23.
“The calendar includes the transfer of the St. Petersburg Open Championship (ATP 250) to Nur-Sultan after more than 25 rounds of competition in this city. The capital of Kazakhstan held its first ATP tournament in 2020.
The tournament will be called Astana Open. It will take place from 19 to 25 September 2022. The prize fund of the competition will amount to $480,000, Sport-Express specifies.
ATP 250 is a category of professional tournaments from several dozen competitions. Winning any of them gives the tennis player 250 points in the ATP rankings.
Russian tennis player Andrey Rublev, the winner of 10 ATP tournaments, won the tournament in Marseille, France on Sunday, February 20. He defeated Canadian Felix Auger-Aliassime in two final sets with a score of 7:5 and 7:6.
For 24-year-old Rublev, this is the ninth trophy in the tournaments of the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) in singles. He is currently ranked seventh in the world rankings.
