HSV bankruptcy in the city derby against St. Pauli
For the first time in seven years, HSV fans are experiencing Bundesliga football again in the Volksparkstadion. But the derby against Rival St. Pauli does not run as hoped for them.
The HSV professionals stood in front of their fans with their fans with reduced heads and pounding faces, while the Kiez kickers from FC St. Pauli celebrated with their supporters on the other hand. In his first Bundesliga home game after seven years, the returnee lost his status as number one in Hamburg with a 0: 2 (0: 1) in the explosive city duel with the neighborhood rival.
Adam Dwigala (19th minute) and the outstanding Andreas Hountondji (60th) scored the goals for the deserved guest victory. In addition to the game, the HSV also lost Giorgi GotscholeiSchwili (77th) with yellow-red. “There is nothing worse than losing a derby at home. We still have a lot to learn,” said HSV sports director Stefan Kuntz at Sky and admitted: “Overall, you have to say that St. Pauli deservedly won.”
The jubilation was at the rival. “It was incredible. What the fans and the team torn down was outstanding,” said St. Pauli’s midfielder Louis Oppie. And President Oke Göttlich rehllocked: “Of course a derby victory is beautiful. I’m really happy for the fans and I am so proud.”
St. Pauli now leaders
With the first Derby victory since October 14, 2022, FC St. Pauli sat on the top of the table with four points after two match days at least overnight. The last game of the two neighbors, seven kilometers away, won the HSV 1-0 in the 2nd Bundesliga in May 2024.
The success of the guests this time in the first Hamburg city derby of the Bundesliga has been deserved for more than 14 years. They appeared playfully mature and clarified. The newly formed HSV team, which continues to be waiting for the first goal of the season, still needs time and patience to arrive in the Bundesliga.
Best derby atmosphere
The 57,000 spectators in the sold-out folk park station ensured a breathtaking derby atmosphere. Any successful tackling, every successful dribbling, every thrown out of their teams was frenetically celebrated by the respective fans.
On the lawn, both teams from the kick -off went intensively to the point – nicknities included. Both HSV coach Merlin Polzin and his colleague Alexander Blessin trusted the same starting formations as at the start in Mönchengladbach (HSV) and against Borussia Dortmund (FC St. Pauli), where both teams came to a tie.
In the initial phase, the game took place especially in midfield. After a quarter of an hour, FC St. Pauli won an overweight. The HSV had nothing to oppose on the offensive. The playful defects were disclosed as in the preparation.
With the first shot, the Kiez kickers also took the lead. After a corner kick, Dwigala prevailed against HSV man Miro Muheim and gave goalkeeper Daniel Heuer Fernandes no chance.
A little later the hosts were lucky when referee Christian Dingert ran a wrangling at the running duel between HSV defender Jordan Torunarigha and Hountondji against the St. Pauli striker. Otherwise Hountondji would have been through. Shortly before the break, Mathias Pereira Lage (41.) awarded the chance to 2-0.
Bad luck for the HSV: Tor does not count because of offside
After the break, the HSV initially put some impulses forward. And saw himself rewarded after four minutes. However, according to video evidence, the supposed equalizer by Ransdorf Königsdörffer (49th) was withdrawn due to a wafer tender apart from the shooter. Four minutes later, St. Pauli goalkeeper Nikola Vasilj had to intervene seriously for the first time after a Muheim free kick.
In the 56th minute, Polzin brought the HSV storm hopes Yussuf Poulsen and Jean-Luc Dompé. But they didn’t make the turn either. Rather, St. Pauli came to the second goal. According to the class pass from Joel Fujita, Hountondji ran alone for Heuer Fernandes and completed from an acute angle. When Gotscholeschwili had to get off the pitch, the guests came to further chances in excess, but could not use them.
