Racism incident by Schröder: Association blocks viewers
After the European Championship game against Lithuania, basketball star Dennis Schröder reports on racist hostility of the opposing fans. The World Association is now announcing a consequence.
The Basketball World Association Fiba reacted to the racism incident about the German national team captain Dennis Schröder and excluded a suspect of further European Championship game visits. “After an immediate review, the arena security service identified the person based on video recordings. The person was prohibited from visiting all other games of the Eurobasket 2025,” Fiba said in a message.
After the European Championship game against Lithuania, Schröder reported racist hostility of the audience ranks against his person. The 31-year-old said after the 107:88 success in Finnish Tampere: “You can insult me, but monkey noises is one thing that I do not respect and do not accept. Racism is not part of this sport.”
Fiba contacted Lithuanian delegation
According to the German Basketball Association (DBB), a total of two people from the hall were expelled after the German coaching team had given information to the security personnel. “Unfortunately, some Lithuanian fans did a monkey noise at half -time. I can’t accept that. Racism in this world shouldn’t belong here,” said Schröder in an interview with Magenta Sport.
According to the authorities, the FIBA has made the “relevant footage and the information available”. The association also announced that they contact the Lithuanian team delegation “to inform them about the situation and to support the efforts to prevent similar incidents in future games,” it said.
