Racism at the EM
Basketball buddy Theis about Schröder: “Hats pull in front of him”
Basketball star Dennis Schröder is racist in the Tampere arena. His buddy Daniel Theis is impressed by the captain’s reaction.
Basketball national player Daniel Theis condemned the racist hostility against his buddy Dennis Schröder and praised the reaction of the German captain. “Mental incredibly strong. He was a bit calmer, which is of course understandable. He gave the answer on the pitch. You can only take the hat off to him,” Theis said on Sunday at a media round in the German team hotel in Tampere.
After the European Championship game against Lithuania (107: 88), world champion Schröder reported racist hostility – specifically of monkey noises – about the audience ranks against his person. The 31-year-old said in the Finnish tampere: “You can insult me, but monkey noises is one thing that I do not respect and do not accept. Racism is not part of this sport.”
Theis, who has known Schröder for decades, expressed full solidarity with the playmaker. “It was shit that Dennis had to go through it. We are there for him and stand behind him when his family and friends,” said Theis. Schröder will answer the hostility with performance on the field, the 33-year-old added.
