Breaked dream finals: This is how the basketball players continue

The European Championship preliminary round in Tampere has ended successfully, now it goes to Riga. What Dennis Schröder and Co. expects in the Latvian capital – and which opponent earlier than expected.

The clear 91:61 about host Finland in Tampere was the end of a flawless preliminary round for the German basketball players. But only now is it really serious at the European Championship – the successor to Spain is being sought at the final round in Latvia’s capital Riga.

“A pretty brutal and completely new tournament begins,” said transition coach Alan Ibrahimagic, who should be replaced by the gradually recovered national coach álex Mumbrú in the Ko round. In addition to Serbia, world champion Germany is one of the top favorites on gold.

When and for whom it continues?

On Saturday (2:15 p.m./RTL and Magenta Sport) it goes against outsiders Portugal, which surprisingly reached the round of 16 after 68:65 via Estonia. The other pairings at the start of the co-round are Türkiye against Sweden (11:00 a.m.), Lithuania against host Latvia (5:30 p.m.) and Serbia against Finland in the evening at 8.45 p.m.

The two preliminary round groups C and D then complete their round of 16 on Sunday. Then, among other things, the Olympic second of France as well as the Slovenes and Greeks with their NBA top stars Luka Doncic and Giannis Antetocounmpo are in demand.

At the earliest in the quarter -finals – Portugal is considered a passage station. The duel with the Serbs, acted as a dream final, can now exist earlier than expected.

Serbia surprisingly lost to Turkey in the evening with 90:95 and only finished second in Group A. Already in the semifinals, Dennis Schröder and Co. could threaten a duel with NBA size Nikola Jokic and ex-national coach Svetislav Pesic. Germany and Serbia are considered the strongest teams in the tournament.
