Casketball European Championship
National coach Mumbru returns – role still unclear
Basketball coach Alex Mumbru is healthy again. He is supposed to sit on the bench against Portugal. In what role?
National coach Alex Mumbru returns to the coaching bench at the European Casketball Championship in the round of 16 against Portugal. The Spaniard has cure his abdominal disease and will be there again in the game this Saturday (2:15 p.m./RTL and Magenta Sport) in Riga. The role of Mumbru will be decided after a conversation with the medical department on the match day.
Should Mumbru feel completely fit again, his assistant Alan Ibrahimagic would take over the main responsibility again. “I stand up to both. I assume that Alex will run the game tomorrow. Then I’ll sit down. If not, I stand there,” said Ibrahimagic in the team hotel. The assistant had taken over the German team in the preliminary round and led five wins in five games.
Mumbru suffered an “acute abdomen” on Monday last week and was taken to the hospital in Tampere. This is an emergency situation that requires immediate medical treatment. It mostly manifests itself in violent abdominal pain. On Thursday, Mumbru headed the training for the first time.
